TURN OF THE TIDE CELEBRATES 20 YEARS OF KHOJ SUPPORT FOR ARTISTS ACROSS MEDIUMS, IDEAS

Indulge Express, February 21, 2018

Outstanding Delhi based alternative arts incubation space, Khoj, celebrates twenty years. On 11 February 2018, Khoj will mark this anniversary with Turn of the Tide, an exhibition by twenty artists who have contributed their work in aid of the ongoing programmes at Khoj.

Over the past twenty years, Khoj has pushed artistic practice across the region by encouraging dialogue and debate in the arts community through workshops, residencies, exhibitions, talks, and community art projects. Khoj provides diverse spaces for artists to incubate and experiment with their work and skills and at every step has continued to ponder over what does it mean to be contemporary in South Asia? Twenty years later, with rapidly changing social circumstances, the tide turns again and the same question echoes even louder with a new generation within the contemporary landscape of art in India.

Through old and new friends and a continued belief in the need for an alternative space, Turn of the Tide: 20/20 Artists for Khoj presents work from twenty of the most exciting contemporary artists practising in India today which will be sold to support the continued work at Khoj. The works will be on view at Khoj from 12 – 24 February 2018 and may be acquired against a donation made to Khoj International Artists’ Association.

The 20/20 artists who have generously gifted their works to the association include Abir Karmakar, Amshu Chukki, Andrew Anand Voogel, Benitha Perciyal, Bhuvanesh Gowda, Kartik Sood, Katyayini Garg, Manish Nai, Pallavi Paul, Prabhakar Pachpute, Pranay Dutta, Rakhi Peswani, Rohini Devasher, Sachin George Sebastian, Sahej Rahal, Sahil Naik, Shailesh BR, Shreyas Karle, Shweta Bhattad, Sumakshi Singh and Surabhi Saraf.

Alongside Turn of the Tide, a limited edition portfolio of ten curated black and white works, entitled Wastelands, will be displayed at Khoj. The works have been generously gifted by established artists including Amar Kanwar, Asim Waqif, Jyoti Bhatt, Nataraj Sharma, Navjot Altaf, Prajakta Potnis, RAQS Media Collective, Riyas Komu, Seher Shah and Sudarshan Shetty.  The works may be acquired against a donation to benefit the ongoing work at Khoj.
Turn of the Tide and Wastelands will open at 5pm 11 February 2018 and will continue until 24 February 2018.
